The idea of Santi Trust came from a feeling of working with the people directly instead of working through the student s (of Social Work) which the founding member (undersigned) had been all along her teaching in social work institutions. Whether social work or any other social service giving profession, under the garb of professionalism one tend to draw a boundary which would not allow movement either this way or that way for fear of becoming  too personal or too emotional and unreasonable. This feelings around the desire to explore whether remaining professional in approach and deed a social worker could be a true voluntary worker combining the spirit of both – commitment as well as willingness to give up or forgo something for the sake of fulfilling that commitment even if it went beyond principles of the profession but it was a requirement to ensure the wellbeing of the persons needing support or assistance.
The idea above would not be sufficient unless other recourses requisite for giving concrete shape to the desire and idea were available. The first requisite was to sell the idea to the likeminded persons and the if they would be, in all livelihoods, join hands to give some shape in reality to the idea. Fortunately the persons approached with the idea welcomed it and volunteered to be partners in the endeavor.  Having received their support and concurrence the Trust was established in 1982 under the Indian Trust Act, 1982.
The Trust is not a collective endeavor of persons from diverse profession like Social Work medicine, education, finance as well as purely voluntary services rendered by many among them.

Legal Status:
The Trust has been registered under 80G. 80G registration number is No.T-18/36/CIT/BWN/08-09/dated-08/05/2009.
