Who We Are

Established in 2006, Santi Trust was formed with the intention to do deeply impactful and sustainable social work. Situated in Santiniketan, near Bolpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, it is a NGO where individuals involved with Social work their whole lives work together with young minds to bring wisdom and enthusiasm together to transform lives of villagers in surrounding villages for better.

Teaching Social work throughout her life, Smt. Sukla Deb Kanango longed to go work for the society not via students of social work but directly. She also noticed how professionalism at times created limitations in the work and she longed to go beyond them to bring real impact. With a desire to explore social work while combining the spirit of both commitment and willingness to go for something for the sake of fulfilling the commitment even if it went beyond the principles of the profession, the idea of Santi Trust bloomed in her mind.

She shared the idea to likeminded people who might like to join hands to bring it to life. Fortunately, the idea was welcomed with open arms by professionals from not only from the field of Social work, but also medicine, education and finance. Many among them rendered purely voluntary services. With efforts and resources put together, the trust got registered under the Indian Trust Act, 1982 and since then has been working diligently braving all odds.

How we work?

We as a team of professional social workers use various methods and approaches to ensure effective implementation some of which are ‘Right Based Approach’, ‘Systems theory’, ‘Ecological Perspective’ etc. For example, Right to Education is a basic human right but often due to various reasons children are denied of the right. Our work with primary education is not only to provide value based education but also to ensure increased involvement of the students so that drop out cases can be avoided. Similarly the other theories and perspectives are also used to provide scientific and theoretical support to our work.
