Groundwater remains the most important source of water supply for drinking in Birbhum District, especially in the rural tracts. The lack of management of the public water sources like tube well, well and other water bodies like ponds leads to unclean water. This directly imposes health hazards. Santi Trust in collaboration with the Department of Social Work (Visva-Bharati), Block Development office as well as Department of Public Health Engineering government of India initiated this project to identify the inadequate sanitation and drainage facilities and mismanaged drinking water sources in the villages under Bolpur-Sriniketan Block Development Office. The project is in its initial phase but the sudden onset of pandemic has slowed down the project. The Trust is looking every opportunity to give direction to the programme.
